My Favourite Toys From the 1950s-80s

Like a lot of children of course I had toys, and I gravitated towards stuffed animals as I found them comforting and dolls because I’ve always loved clothes and putting outfits together. I grew up watching the 1980s 2D animated Transformers, My Little Pony, and Care Bears films and always wanted to have toys of them from the 1980s but wasn’t able to obtain any until I was an adult with my own money and realised I could spend on toys if I wanted too. I remember my grandma had a book on old mechanical toys and I was always fascinated by it. My first purchase as an adult for vintage toys was getting my childhood dream Care Bear and My Little Pony (Braveheart Lion and Wind Whistler) and starting to collect Transformers, both vintage and new, as I wasn’t really allowed toys my parents saw as being ‘for boys’ when I was a kid due to me being a trans man and therefor raised as a girl. Collecting vintage toys, both physically and also just finding information and images of them online, is just really fun for me, something I’ve always just been really drawn too and interested in.

When I was under 10 I collected Barbie, Bratz, Polly Pocket, Littlest Pet Shop, Winx Club among other random toys. As a teenager I got into anime and watched Rozen Maiden, found out about the Pullip dolls that were made of the characters and started collecting all sorts of Pullips, and then Monster High and tried to get into collecting BJDs but they were too difficult to order and very expensive. Around 2023 I started finding out about more old toy lines mostly via Ghost of the Doll and started saving Ebay searches in the hopes ones I really liked might pop up for reasonable prices. I also in 2025 started buying Pullips again for the first time since I was a teenager. It’s both easier and more difficult to find them for sale now, easier because you can actually find ones in the UK for sale now on sites like Ebay when I couldn’t find other UK collectors 10 years ago, but harder because fewer of the dolls are being released every year and the prices of them keep increasing.

This webshrine will be for mostly vintage toys but there will might be exceptions. Vintage tends to mean anything that is around 20-99 years old, and anything 100 years old or older is an antique. However, while that makes toys I had as a child in the late 90s/2000s 'vintage' I don't want to include them here. I’d like this shrine to focus on vintage toys and have a different shrine or page for all the toys I have owned or still own. I already have a separate shrine for Pullip dolls (both my collection and also to serve as a fanwiki since none already exist).

Most of the photos on here are not my own and were either found on other vintage toy websites or on for sale listings.
